  What is the Change Institute?

Summary

The Change Institute is a non-profit making think tank and research organisation designed to help the broad entity that is the 'Movement for Global Change' to consider its goals and to pursue them more effectively.

It does this by drawing together theoretical, academic and strategic thinking from a range of disciplines and sources and applying it to the to the MFGC in order to help it to:

  1. Consider its goals
To consider and clarify the theoretical issues underpinning the goals it is seeking, including what it means to seek change in the attitudes and behaviour of human being and the validity of the goals of change that it is seeking. This work has a remarkably wide range of applications, from increasing the level of intellectual perspective possessed by individuals to informing policy and strategic planning in organisations.

  2.

Pursue these goals more effectively
Specifically, to consider how to seek change most effectively in the attitudes and behaviour of individuals. This work can be applied to many areas, including campaigning, communications, political lobbying, fundraising and others.

  3. Reflect on its performance as a movement
To monitor the intellectual and practical performance of the movement, both as a whole and the various actors within it.

A general aim of CI is to build the intellectual power and intellectual resources of the MFGC. CI is a member of the CHANGESTAR family of organisations and thus operates within a range of values and procedures common to all members of this family. For more details, download the full explanation document provided in the 'Output' section below.

Topic Areas

The CI examines a wide range of important topics - including understanding what it means to seek change in the attitudes and behaviour of human beings, exploring the validity of the goals of change that the MFGC is seeking and considering how best to achieve this change.

Output

The practical output of the CI is varied, and includes research projects, a forum and networking function, the provision of further areas of consultancy for the MFGC, plus broadcasting, journalism and publishing.

Ultimately CI aims to become regarded as the main resource for all organisations and individuals within the MFGC for these areas of expertise.

  Support Needed

A number of factors are required in order to turn the idea for the Institute into reality.
Associates - at this stage we want individuals from both theoretical and practical sides to give their backing to the idea of the CI, as it is vital to build support for the scheme amongst potential participants and clients. It is hoped that a handful of these contacts may become directors of the initiative. To provide your backing (with no further obligation or commitment to the scheme), please email info@changestar.co.uk NOW. Please include a brief outline of your background, current role and area(s) of particular expertise or interest.

Volunteers - individuals to help in the practical side of setting up, promoting and delivering the scheme. This also includes contacts from practical and theoretical sides who are willing to contribute their time to the scheme.

Money - funds are urgently required to set up and run the initiative.
