Thinking
Workshop

Our Workshop section gives you the chance to see some of the background thinking that drives the rest of ChangeStar's work. This thinking is in a constant state of review and redevelopment.

Over years of experience and study, we have developed a way of thinking and an outlook on the world that we think is unusual. Our workshop aims to develop this approach to thinking. This thinking is applied in all other areas of our work.

A number of ingredients make up our approach, but an important component is the notion of intellectual perspective. We believe that it is possible for an ordinary individual to develop a broad base of knowledge and thinking skills that will enable them to understand the basic territory of most areas of life and issues of human concern. Essentially, this 'intellectual perspective' acts rather like a map, enabling people to see where they are, even in the most complex situations and debates.

We also believe that having this ability at any level brings many, many advantages - from the personal to the political. Just a few of them include the ability to be happier in one's personal life (seeing your own life in clear context, not falling prey to fear, ignorance etc.), the ability to think in a clearer way and make better decisions and also the possibility of greater social cohesion, through a population that is wiser and able to communicate better about issues of disagreement.

This area of our work includes the following components:

Defining What 'Better Thinking' Is - articulating what our approach to thinking consists of. Here is our initial outline <Better Thinking - Word Document 82.5KB>.

Developing Foundations of Knowledge - developing the content of this foundational thinking ourselves. Documents we have developed to do this so far are:

Foundations (2005) <Word Document - 218 KB>
The starting point. A paper for the interested non-philosopher, aiming to establish the foundations of the 'reality' we live in and of how human beings think and behave.

Reality and Morality (2004) <Word Document - 376 KB>
A paper that aims to move on from 'Foundations', and uses the thinking and insights of the aforementioned paper to investigate the concept of morality, values and how we should live.
